Nasym Khan | Kenya | Dream Big!

Updated: Mar 5, 2022

Entrepreneur | Fashion Strategist

My name is Nasym Khan. I am an entrepreneur, and a muslim woman. I was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. I worked for 6 years in the marketing industry before I jumped into the entrepreneurial world. I hated routine and the fact that I wasn’t able to do anything that brought change, running in the same rat race became very exhausting and I decided to follow my dreams and passion that I had put aside for so many years. It was so easy staying in my comfort zone but in the long run I wasn’t happy. We launched our brand @nasforyou 6 years ago up-to-date. Nasforyou is a brand tailored for the Muslim woman, we initially started off by designing bespoke modest wear, we’ve now expanded and we are the first vegan halal breathable nail polish brand in East Africa and also majority parts of Africa.

Our brand main focus is to empower the Muslim woman, changing the narrative that we can and are capable of running businesses against the norms of how a Muslim woman is perceived in the man’s world.

What were the biggest initial hurdles and how did you overcome them?

The biggest initial hurdle was introducing a new product in an untapped market, it took a big risk and Alhamdulilah; but it paid off. Establishing a solid foundation is never easy, it takes working day and night. Still does. The main challenge we face at the moment is shipping taxes and we are working on sorting that out to make it easily accessible shipping worldwide.

What books are you currently reading?

Currently re-reading the 5am club by Robin Sharma, a really good read that I recommend everyone to grab a copy.

What advice would you give to an upcoming youth or talents locally and internationally?

My advice to the youth would be to dream big, nothing is impossible. Your strengths are bigger than your fears, stop living in your head. There is so much potential in you and the world needs to see it. We are here to mentor anyone who needs advice, we are here to grow together as a community.
