TV Personality | Registered Nurse | Entrepreneur | Model

My name is Melissa Meeks, and I have faced numerous challenges in my life. As a mother of three and Registered Nurse, I have always tried to be strong and resilient. Pursuing my passion for acting and modeling while prioritizing my role as a mother has been a significant part of my journey. Today, I am proud to be a thriving model and entrepreneur. Plus landing my first television roll on BETs reality show After Happily Ever After. Using my platform, I aim to inspire and empower women to overcome adversity and pursue their dreams.

I was born and raised in Chicago and from a young age, I have always loved exploring the world through photography and traveling. I am a go-getter who is not afraid to try new things. As a nurse, I worked at Oakland’s Juvenile Detention Center and found the job to be rewarding. Similarly, my career as a prospective model and actor has provided me with financial stability and opened doors to new opportunities. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family and exploring new destinations. I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way and look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on the world around me.

Melissa what are and were your 3 biggest initial hurdles you faced and how did you overcome them?

As an individual, I have faced several challenges in my life, including personal and professional hurdles. However, I have always strived to remain strong and resilient, and here are three of the biggest initial hurdles I have faced and how I overcame them:

Balancing motherhood and a career: As a mother of three, it was initially challenging to find a balance between my responsibilities as a parent and pursuing my passions. However, I learned to prioritize and manage my time effectively. I made a schedule that allowed me to take care of my children while also pursuing my modeling and acting career. All still while working full time as a nurse.

Dealing with personal struggles I faced a public difficult divorce, which was a personal struggle that impacted my health. I overcame this hurdle by seeking counseling and taking care of myself. I practiced self-care techniques such as meditation, exercise, and spending time with loved ones, which helped me overcome this challenge.

Establishing myself in the modeling industry: Starting in the modeling industry can be challenging, especially for someone who doesn’t fit the traditional mold. However, I overcame this hurdle by working hard, building my portfolio, and networking. I also learned to embrace my unique look and promote body positivity and inclusivity in the industry.

What advice do you have for young people locally and internationally who are just starting out in their careers or pursuing their passions?

My advice for young people who are starting out in their careers or pursuing their passions would be:

Believe in yourself and your abilities: It’s essential to have self-confidence and trust in your abilities to achieve your goals. Remember that everyone starts somewhere, and success takes time and effort. Believe in yourself, stay focused, and don’t give up on your dreams.

Embrace challenges and learn from failures: Challenges and failures are a natural part of any journey, and it’s crucial to learn from them rather than being discouraged by them. Embrace the obstacles you face and use them as opportunities to learn and grow. Every challenge you overcome and every mistake you make is a valuable lesson that will help you succeed in the long run.
