Freelance & Pro Makeup Artist | CEO | Entrepreneur
My name is Mary. I was born and raised in Egypt and now I live with my South African husband in Johannesburg, South Africa for 11 years. I've always been extremely passionate and the type of person who loves sharing information and teaching myself new things! I started my career as a freelance makeup artist after moving to South Africa, before getting married I was studying in university to become a librarian in Alexandria library. But after moving to a new country and speaking a new language I realized that things had to change up and I chose to be a makeup artist
What were the biggest initial hurdles and how did you overcome them?
It wasn’t easy to be honest but I worked hard on myself and my language. For me the beauty industry is a perfect place to be creative and express myself through making someone else feel beautiful. As a makeup artist we have the freedom to be as creative as we want. We can choose what we want to specialize in. Weddings and special occasions, photo shoots, TV and movie productions, the options are endless. Each model for me was a fresh new canvas that allows me to express myself as an artist.
What books are you currently reading?
I am currently reading: The rules of work to Richard Templar and The Bower of focus to Jack Canfield.
What advice would you give to an upcoming youth or talents locally and internationally?
My advice that I would give to an upcoming youth or talents locally and internationally: follow your passion, give 110% and be true to yourself. If you’re passionate about something and you work hard, then I think you will be successful. Surround yourself with good people. People who are going to be honest with you and look out for your best interests. Watch less TV and spend less time surfing the web. Cut down on these time wasting activities and replace them with productive activities which will help you focus your financial goals.
