As a family-friendly comedian via social media (Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube etc). I often try to lighten up my content delivery by telling some funny nostalgic stories that everyone can relate to, from my experience as an African and my experience living abroad. My contents are also and often delivered in different local Ghanaian dialects. We have all been through some crazy things in our lives, some of which we would never share with others. However, I believe humour helps encode memories because it evokes emotions.
My name is Kofi Dormenyo Ahialegbedzi – also known as “Cyriuse” or “Layoon”. I am currently based in the USA. I am a Ghanaian, comedian, and an entrepreneur. I am the founder of an urban outreach movement (foundation registration still pending), focusing on giving back to underprivileged communities in Ghana (Africa) and the USA. I was born and raised in Accra, the capital city of Ghana. I had my basic, junior high, senior high school education all in Ghana. Not only did I participate in different events in my community growing up. My free spirit and compassionate heart made me very likeable. My role as a comedian is to write my own script, research locations and edit my content. As a content creator on social media, whenever good or bad things happen or whenever life happens, it’s my job to get out there and talk about it, process it, and make things relatable to my followers or my audiences. I have been blessed to have collaborated with my friends in Ghana and abroad. When I am not a comedian, I am either food prepping or making dishes or landscaping or doing lawn care both from an owner and co-owner’s standpoint. I believe the most popular side hustles for food lovers involve cooking meals for people to eat. Several online platforms have been helpful throughout my journey. What were the biggest initial hurdles and how did you overcome them?
One of the hurdles I faced in the beginning when I first started as a comedian was finding balance (work, time management, family etc.) However, I am so grateful to have my support system – friends, family, team etc.
What advice would you give to an upcoming youth or talents locally and internationally? My advice to the youth is be compassionate, give back if you can and live life. Surround yourself with people who inspire and make harmless, yet truthful and hilarious jokes about our humanity.
