Hailing from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and a proud member of the Sagkeeng Anishnaabe First Nation, Nahanni's journey is steeped in a commitment to justice and empowerment. Raised in the vibrant community of Point Douglas, Nahanni's educational pursuits at the University of Winnipeg culminated in a Bachelor of Arts degree in environmental development, followed by a Master of Arts in native studies. These academic achievements laid the foundation for her profound understanding of Indigenous rights and social justice issues.


Nahanni's political career soared when she was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba for the riding of St. Johns in both the 2016 and 2019 elections. As an advocate for marginalized communities, Nahanni has spearheaded legislative initiatives aimed at enhancing the safety and well-being of Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit individuals.


Her pivotal role in passing legislation to honor the families of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people underscores her unwavering dedication to justice and remembrance.


Beyond her legislative achievements, Nahanni's influence extends to the realm of social media, where she champions important causes and amplifies marginalized voices. In 2023, Nahanni's leadership was further recognized when she was sworn in as Minister of Families, Minister responsible for Accessibility, and Minister responsible for Gender Equity.
