Meet, Afua Kyei; a remarkable business and financial leader, assumed the role of CFO and Executive Director of the Bank of England at the age of 36 in June 2019. Her impact has been pivotal, contributing significantly to the Bank's core leadership during challenging times such as Brexit, the Covid pandemic, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and the ongoing cost of living crisis. Reporting directly to Governor Andrew Bailey, Afua has demonstrated exceptional leadership and decision-making skills.


Her accomplishments have earned her prestigious accolades, including CFO of the Year 2021 at the Women in Finance Awards UK. Afua was also recognized in the Cranfield FTSE Board Report '100 Women to Watch 2022' and featured in the 2022 list of the Kindness & Leadership, 50 Leading Lights UK campaign.


Furthermore, she was honored on the Powerlist 2023 as one of the '100 most influential Britons of black heritage' and named in the '2023 list of 100 Most Reputable Africans' by Reputation Poll International.


Afua possesses a versatile skill set encompassing Strategy, Investment Banking, Commercial Finance, Strategic Cost Transformation, Planning, Analytics, and Audit. Her international career has seen her lead global teams in dynamic markets across Central Banking, Investment Banking, and Retail Banking. She has held key positions at renowned institutions such as the Bank of England, Barclays, UBS, and Ernst & Young. Afua's passion lies in serving the UK and making a meaningful contribution to society.


Education-wise, Afua graduated with a Natural Sciences MChem degree from Oxford University and later earned a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) in Finance and Strategic Management from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, USA. She is a Chartered Accountant (CA) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Scotland.

Apart from her role at the Bank of England, Afua serves as an Honorary Fellow at Somerville College in Oxford. Her leadership and strategic prowess have left an indelible mark on the financial landscape, making her a trailblazer and an inspiration for aspiring leaders.
