Aaliyah Alicia Thompson | Atlanta | Never Underestimate Yourself!!

Businesswoman | Autism Advocate | Beauty Entrepreneur

Hi, my name is Aaliyah Alicia Thompson and I am a 21-year-old African American woman from Stockbridge, GA. I am proud to have made history as the first woman with autism in the country to open my own beauty bar, which I named Aaliyah's Beauty Bar. Located in Clayton County, just 15 miles from Atlanta, Aaliyah's Beauty Bar offers a wide range of hair and beauty care services, including makeup and nails. Customers are welcome to visit us without an appointment, and we are open seven days a week to provide convenience to our clients.

Growing up, I was diagnosed with autism when I was just five years old. However, I was determined to not let this diagnosis limit my potential or my ability to achieve my dreams. Throughout high school, I was an outstanding student and even graduated with honors.

My passion for the beauty industry was sparked when I began working at Touched by an Angel Beauty School and Salon in Jonesboro, Ga. There, I was able to refine my skills and hone my talent. My mother, Patricia Terry, believed in me and my abilities, and with her support, I was able to open my own beauty bar.

At Aaliyah's Beauty Bar, I implemented my own unique designs and concepts, and I am excited to offer my clients exceptional hair and beauty care services. It is my hope that my journey will inspire and encourage others, particularly those families that deal with autism, to believe in themselves and their dreams.

If you're in the area, I invite you to visit Aaliyah's Beauty Bar at 3797 GA 138 Suite F, Stockbridge, GA. 30281.

What were some of the most significant challenges you faced initially, and how did you overcome them?

One of my initial hurdles was my communication skills. However, spending time around my mother's school and interacting with her students helped me to become more social and less shy and nervous when it came to speaking with others.

What advice would you offer to young people who are just starting their careers or pursuing their passions, both locally and internationally?

My advice to anyone would be to never underestimate yourself. Believe that you can accomplish anything that you set your mind to, and then go for it with full determination. Additionally, I would encourage surrounding yourself with people who believe in you and support your endeavours. Having a strong support system can make a world of difference when pursuing your dreams, providing the necessary encouragement and motivation to help you stay focused and resilient.
