Bernnett Brako Asiamah | Ghana | Don't Be Afraid!

It doesn’t matter where in the world you come from, your success in fashion doesn’t have to fit the same old patterns that you’re used to seeing.

Hello, I’m Bernnett or Benny. I’m the founder of Bello Couture GH. I began this because I wanted to create a space, developing a business than just creating a fashion label. And by that I mean, bringing my entrepreneurial dreams to life. I actually graduated as a medical lab scientist and worked in the health sector for about 2years. I always wore my designs to work and I got a lot of compliment. I got to a point in my life where I felt like I wanted to do more. In my quest of becoming more and doing more I decided to resign from my job and to face my fashion business full time. It has been an interesting, challenging and also a rewarding journey so far. I honestly don’t have any regrets quitting my job to run my fashion business. Don’t be afraid to take time to learn. It’s good to work for other people. Bello Couture GH is a Ghanaian international fashion brand and bespoke brand - finding it niche using unique African prints and other fabrics to tailor exquisite and comfortable outfits. Our goal is to offer quality fashionable pieces with impeccable finishing at affordable prices. I make sure to interact with every client to know their preference of fabric and detail. But mainly the interest is focused on the perfect fit for the client.

What were the biggest initial hurdles to building your business and how did you overcome them?

The biggest hurdle for me will be the fact that there was a notion publicly that fashion designer and tailors are deceitful and are always not on time, so I took it upon myself to approach my business model a different route. Hence I position my self in a way that when I get the order I give a specific time range that I know we can deliver or if you do want your design done ASAP you will pay an express pickup fee. That way, I won't disappoint the client and I am always on time and that’s really helped propel the brand.

Did you ever deal with contention from your family and friends concerning your entrepreneurial pursuits?

Yes I dealt with one, my father actually disowned me because of the fact that I was choosing my passion over my career as medical lab scientist and he felt disappointed. However, when I had a television interview and I was given the opportunity to really pour my heart out about my passion and he was more convinced so we ended up talking about it and that is history.

What advice would you give to an upcoming entrepreneur locally and internationally?
