Michael Lin | Los Angeles | Learn & Grow!

I'm the owner of Mannies of L.A.. I came up with the idea over 3 years ago. I work as a elementary school teacher and noticed that there were not many male teachers in the early ages. I started thinking about how so many children grow up with out a father, a father that's working full-time, a nanny or house keeper that's female, or female teachers for a good portion of the early life. I would have parents come and ask me if I could spend time with their daughter or son after school. I saw a need for positive male role models. That was when a light bulb went off and I thought to myself that I need to start a male nanny agency. I never imagined that I would be a business owner but I guess I always had it in me. Once the idea formed, I ran with it and within a couple of weeks or so, I was up and running! It's all about determination and passion. I've definitely made many mistakes along the way but you know that's an important part of starting anything. You just have to learn and grow from those mistakes.

What three pieces of advice would you give to college students (young and old) locally or internationally who want to become entrepreneurs?

If you have an idea, run with it.

Don't be afraid that you don't know. You will learn as you go. It's okay to make mistakes.

It's all about connections.

If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?

I would have majored in business :)

What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

Outgoing, determined, passionate.

Little Steps!!
