In the heart of Northern Manitoba, where the land breathes life into the community, Reanna Merasty, known traditionally as Sîpihkosiw Anaskani Iskwêw or "Blue Blanket Woman" and Ogichidaakwe or "Warrior Woman," has forged an inspiring path. Hailing from the Barren Lands First Nation, Reanna's roots run deep in the land that shaped her passion for environmental design and wellness. With her fiancé Jeremy by her side, Reanna's journey is a blend of traditional ceremony and modern ambition. As a dedicated sundancer, her commitment to healing and sobriety is intertwined with her work. Her vibrant lifestyle includes being a @newo.wellness Ambassador, an avid Crossfitter, and a former rugby player, all while staying deeply connected to her heritage.


In the academic and professional realms, Reanna is a powerhouse. She is currently a Sessional Instructor for the Department of Architecture’s master's program at the University of Manitoba, where she teaches “Being a Good Relative: An Indigenous Approach to the Architectural Process.” Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Environmental Design and a Master of Architecture from the University of Manitoba. As an architectural intern, Reanna focuses on weaving Indigenous stories, dreams, and perspectives into her designs.


Reanna's advocacy work is just as impressive. She serves as the Manitoba Regional Director on the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada (RAIC) Board of Directors, chairs the Welcoming Winnipeg Committee, and participates in two Indigenous Leadership Circles. Her contributions were recently recognized with the 2023 Youth-First Nations Indspire Award and the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.


Despite facing severe mental health challenges, identity crises, and intergenerational trauma, Reanna's resilience shines through. She channels her experiences into her work and advocacy, striving to support and uplift others. As the Co-Founder of the Indigenous Design & Planning Students Association (IDPSA), Reanna has championed Indigenous representation in architecture and led initiatives like the "Voices of the Land: Indigenous Design and Planning from the Prairies" publication.


Reanna’s journey is a testament to her dedication and strength, merging her love for the land with her commitment to impactful design and community advocacy. Her story is a beacon of hope and inspiration, highlighting the power of blending tradition with innovation to create meaningful change.
