Oumou Fofana, a dynamic force in entertainment journalism and entrepreneurship, was born in Brooklyn, and raised in a rich tapestry of Guinean heritage. From a young age, Oumou was captivated by the world of journalism, driven by a desire to amplify diverse voices and stories. Her academic journey took her to St. John's University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in journalism. She further honed her skills at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism, earning a master's degree in 2018, and discovering her passion for entertainment, culture, and lifestyle reporting. With over eight years of experience, Oumou has navigated various roles in media, including news editor at REVOLT, content writer at HOT 97, and breaking news reporter at the New York Post. In December 2023, she joined BET as a staff writer. Her versatility and expertise have garnered her recognition, allowing her to conduct exclusive interviews with some of the most celebrated talents in popular culture. In 2020, Oumou's entrepreneurial spirit led her to launch OUMOU, a fashion e-boutique reflecting her impeccable style. This venture seamlessly intertwines her passion for storytelling with her keen eye for fashion, creating a platform that celebrates individuality and creativity.


Oumou's dedication to her craft has not gone unnoticed. In 2019, she received the I Am African & I Can’s Rising Star honor for her work in journalism. In 2021, she was nominated for Woman of The Year at the SGWA Awards, and she recently received a nomination for the Special Recognition category at the 2024 SGWA Awards.


Beyond her accolades, Oumou remains committed to being the voice of her generation. Through her independent media platform, Oumou Media, she produces high-quality content that resonates with and inspires communities worldwide. She also hosts “Afrobeats Takeover,” a podcast dedicated to African creatives.


Despite facing challenges such as racism and rejection, Oumou's resilience and faith in God's timing have fueled her success. She believes in starting over as many times as necessary to achieve her goals.
