Nana Mensah | Ghana | Be Resilient

Founder | Fashion and Modeling Enthusiast | Fashion Expert | Philanthropist | TV & Radio Host

Hello, my name is Nana Mensah, and I am the founder of two successful fashion events in Ghana, Mr. Model Africa and Ghana Menswear Week. As a fashion and modeling enthusiast, I have always had a passion for creating a platform where young, responsible men can pursue their modeling dreams. That's why I launched the Mr. Model Africa competition in 2014, and I am proud to say that it has helped to launch the careers of many of the male models that are currently dominating the Ghanaian modeling industry. In 2016, I continued my mission of promoting Ghanaian fashion and modeling talent by launching the Ghana Menswear Week event, formerly known as the Accra Men's Fashion Week. This event was significant for Ghana because it made us the second country in Africa, after South Africa, to organize a men's fashion week. Since then, the platform has featured several fashion designers from across Africa, and it has helped to launch many fashion brands in Ghana.

Through these events, I have been able to make a positive impact on the Ghanaian fashion and modeling industry, and I am committed to continuing to create platforms that will help to promote and support the growth of the industry.

What were the biggest initial hurdles you faced and how did you overcome them?

One of the main challenges that we continue to face is getting corporate sponsors and brands to recognize the value and importance of both events for the development of young talents in Ghana's fashion and modeling industry. Despite our efforts, securing sponsorship remains a significant hurdle in our growth and expansion efforts each year. However, we remain committed to our vision and will continue to work hard to showcase and promote the best of African fashion and modeling talent to the world.

What advice do you have for young people locally and internationally who are just starting out in their careers or pursuing their passions?

As someone who has pursued my passion and founded successful initiatives in the fashion and modeling industry, I have a few pieces of advice for young people starting out in their careers or pursuing their passions:

Find your passion: Identify what truly motivates and excites you, and pursue it with all your heart. Don't be afraid to take risks or try new things.

Believe in yourself: Have faith in your abilities and believe that you can achieve your goals, even when faced with challenges or setbacks.

Be patient: Success does not come overnight. It takes time, hard work, and perseverance to achieve your goals. Stay focused and keep pushing forward.

Build your network: Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who share your passion and can support you on your journey. Attend industry events, connect with professionals, and build meaningful relationships.

Continuously learn and improve: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, attend workshops and training sessions, and constantly seek opportunities to improve your skills and knowledge.

Be resilient: Expect obstacles and setbacks, but don't let them deter you from pursuing your dreams. Learn from them, adapt, and keep moving forward.

Stay true to yourself: Don't compromise your values or integrity to achieve success. Stay true to who you are and what you believe in, and success will follow.
