María Valencia’s story is a testament to the power of resilience, love, and determination. Born in El Salvador, she grew up as the oldest of four children, raised by a single mother who embodied strength and perseverance. At the age of 11, María’s life took a dramatic turn when her mother, who had fled to Canada as a refugee years earlier to escape the horrors of the civil war, was finally able to bring her children to safety. Canada offered a fresh start—a chance for a better life, far from the trauma of their homeland. Growing up in a new country wasn’t easy, but María’s mother showed her that hard work could open doors to new possibilities. Juggling multiple jobs to provide for her family, María’s mother taught her the value of perseverance and the strength one woman can muster when she is determined to build a brighter future. These lessons stayed with María, fueling her passion and drive to make a difference in her own unique way. Although Canada became her new home, El Salvador remained a part of María’s heart. She returned once, but the memories of the civil war still linger, bringing with them a sense of fear and anxiety that she continues to heal from. Her journey of healing is ongoing, a reminder that no one should have to endure what she did. Yet, her experience has also shaped her unwavering commitment to creating a better future for others.
María’s commitment to inclusivity is deeply personal and a guiding principle in everything she does at CaroQuilla. For her, inclusivity isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a lived experience. CaroQuilla was founded with the belief that every woman deserves to feel beautiful and confident in her own skin. That’s why the models featured on the website and social media are not airbrushed fantasies but real women—women who believe in the brand, love the product, and have bravely embraced their vulnerability to be photographed in their undies.
Starting a new brand from scratch is no small feat, but María’s small yet mighty team is driven by passion and purpose. Alongside her partner JP, they’ve built CaroQuilla into more than just a brand—it’s a movement toward comfort, confidence, and sustainability. With every bamboo underwear sold, María is not only empowering women to embrace their beauty but also making a positive impact on the environment.
María’s journey with CaroQuilla is a story of continuous learning, growth, and a commitment to making the world a more inclusive and sustainable place. And through it all, her belief in the strength of women, shaped by her own story, remains at the heart of everything she does.
