Maissa Houri’s journey in the world of film and acting is a captivating tale of passion, creativity, and determination. An Arab-Canadian filmmaker and ACTRA actor, Maissa has made her mark in Ottawa’s film scene by embracing her unique perspective and bringing it to life through storytelling. After attending Montreal’s Vanier College Theatre and Film Program, Maissa’s love for film continued to grow, leading her to create award-winning web series and short films that resonate with audiences. Her dedication to fostering inclusivity shines through in her role as Director of Equity Initiatives at the Digi60 Filmmakers’ Festival. Maissa isn’t just a filmmaker—she’s a trailblazer, creating space for diverse voices in the industry. In 2023, her talent and drive earned her a coveted spot in Netflix-Banff’s Diversity of Voices Initiative at the Banff World Media Festival, a testament to her rising star status. And it didn’t stop there—she was also honored as ACTRA Ottawa’s Woman of the Year in 2024.


But Maissa’s story is only just beginning. With exciting projects like her upcoming television comedy series, The Arranged Marriage, developed in partnership with GAPC Entertainment and Vérité Films, and her new web series, Touch, she’s set to continue making waves.


Whether she’s writing, directing, or acting, Maissa’s work is infused with a vibrant energy that reflects her passion for storytelling. Off set, she’s a book-loving mom who cherishes time with her husband and daughters, adding yet another layer to her multifaceted life.
