Hilal Samir Ashour’s journey is a remarkable testament to creativity, resilience, and the pursuit of artistic excellence across diverse cultures and disciplines. With a deep-seated passion for storytelling and a flair for visual expression, Hilal began his artistic path by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Al Ahliyya Amman University in Jordan. This foundation laid the groundwork for a global career that would see him collaborate with some of the most prestigious names in animation and design across continents. Hilal’s creative repertoire is both vast and impactful. His work effortlessly blends artistry with purpose, capturing the essence of the world’s most prominent media platforms. From animation projects for MTV in the USA to awareness campaigns for UNICEF in the West Bank, Hilal’s talent transcends borders. His contributions to Al Jazeera’s children’s programming, particularly the beloved series Open Sesame, introduced young audiences to new worlds, while his character designs and motion graphics for various platforms brought vibrant, relatable characters to life. His creative touch has also made waves in the commercial sector, with projects for global brands like IKEA and Orange Telecommunications, where his storyboarding and illustration skills helped create visuals that truly resonate with audiences.
Yet it’s not just the high-profile collaborations that define Hilal’s career. His professional journey has been one of resilience and adaptability. Early on, he cut his teeth as an artist for Abu Mahjoob, a position he held for nine years, where he sharpened his skills and gained a profound understanding of the Middle Eastern art and media landscape. This experience laid a strong foundation for his leadership roles, including serving as Art Director at SmartApps and Modon Tours. In these positions, Hilal combined his artistic expertise with management skills to lead new projects, guide creative teams, and foster innovation. These experiences also instilled in him the value of teamwork, communication, and the importance of nurturing emerging talent—principles that he now applies as a freelance artist.
As a freelancer, Hilal expanded his portfolio even further, working with notable clients like FAB UK and Zensations Magazine. These collaborations allowed him to explore the realms of fashion and film, adding even more versatility to his already impressive skill set. His recent work includes a collaboration with Sportitalia TV on the show Solo Chi Fede, where his artistic vision was adapted to suit different cultural and medium-specific needs. Additionally, Hilal’s involvement in educational projects, such as a proverbs book for the UAE and educational materials in California, highlights his commitment to producing meaningful, culturally relevant art that both educates and inspires.
Throughout his career, Hilal has remained an advocate for resilience in the face of adversity. “Challenges are simply steps to growth,” he reflects, a philosophy that has guided him through obstacles and propelled him forward in his creative pursuits. His journey serves as a powerful reminder for young creatives to embrace challenges, evolve continuously, and pursue their passions with unwavering determination. Hilal finds inspiration in many aspects of life—from his love for basketball and horror films to his admiration for Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror. These influences fuel his art and reinforce his belief that every experience is an opportunity for growth and creativity.
Currently, Hilal is collaborating with Tahalof Company in the UAE and continues to work with SmartApps on educational materials for young audiences in Jordan. Through each project and collaboration, Hilal has crafted a legacy that reflects his deep passion for art, his commitment to inspiring others, and his tireless pursuit of excellence. As his journey continues, he remains dedicated to mentoring the next generation of artists, encouraging them to dream bigger, work harder, and embrace their own creative paths.
