Hayden Cashion | Ottawa, Ontario | Mastering Patience

Digital Marketing Consultant | Social Media Strategist

I would fall deeply involved with hobbies, learn from them and then mature onto the next love. I started in hip-hop dance, then into soccer, then into skateboarding, then into music, then into business and marketing. The key is once something no longer served me, I would let it go and move on even if I had dedicated a lot of time to it. I never fear evolving, I always embrace it.

What were the biggest initial hurdles and how did you overcome them?

I struggle to find hurdles because I believe everything is “easy” and I haven’t had any real catastrophes in my life. I believe everything is easy because in my mind everything is just steps. Some things may take more steps (i.e. becoming a lawyer) but in my mind that doesn’t make it hard that just means more work. I feel blessed to have found good friends and have an incredible family that is in relatively good health. For that reason, I don’t feel I’ve encountered and real hurdles. Micro events (business & life setbacks) I just see as opportunities to learn and then teach in the future, so I mentally flip these negatives into positives. I trained myself to do this over the last 4 years and it’s been foundational to my consistent happiness and productivity on a daily basis.

What books are you currently reading?

I don’t read books. I consume YouTube videos of people who level-up my mindset. Some people I listen to: are Gary Vaynerchuk, Rob Drydek, Marc Lore, Russ, Jesse Itzler and Scooter Braun.

What advice would you give to an upcoming youth or talents locally and internationally?

In your career, focus on what makes you happy. If you do something you genuinely enjoy you’ll spend more time on it in comparison to other people in that field. For this reason, you’ll eventually become one of the best out of sheer hours worked. This will lead you to be in the top percentile of financially compensated individuals in that space. In other words, you’ll make good money doing what you love. It’s a beautiful place to be. What stops many people is the patience and humility it takes to get there. It may take a while to put in the hours so you’ll need to be patient. You may see other people make more money quicker because of the route they took so you’ll need to be humble. If you focus on what you love while mastering patience and humility you’ll have an incredible professional career.
