Gilbert Asante's story is one of creativity, passion, and relentless pursuit of excellence. Born in Koforidua, Ghana, Gilbert's journey into the world of photography and creative direction began at the age of 19 during a transformative trip to the vibrant art centers of Japan. This journey, sparked by an unexpected gift of a camera from his uncle, set the stage for a career that would transcend geographical boundaries and redefine visual storytelling. Gilbert attended St. Peter's Boys Senior High School in Nkwatia and later earned a degree in Telecommunication Engineering from the Ghana Communications Technology University. Despite his technical background, his heart was firmly rooted in the arts. Upon returning to Ghana from Japan, Gilbert dabbled in web and graphic design before transitioning into fashion and commercial photography. Gilbert career in photography took off because he was frustrated with the poor quality of images available for web design projects, he decided to invest in a camera. This decision marked the beginning of his illustrious career. Gilbert's work quickly gained recognition, and he became known for his stunning photographs of Ghanaian celebrities such as Joselyn Dumas, Boxing legend Azumah Nelson, and former First Lady Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.


Gilbert's creative journey led him to co-found Laceup Media, a digital production company where he serves as the Creative Director. Here, he leads all communication designs and provides digital solutions for brands and individuals. His work spans photography, film, interactive media, design, augmented reality, and virtual reality.


Gilbert has documented a wide array of subjects, from the memoir of Ghana's former First Lady to international celebrities like Omotola Jalade and DJ Cuppy. His portfolio includes collaborations with major brands such as Nestle, Vodafone, Guinness, and Nivea. His work has been featured in prestigious publications like GQ, Glam Africa, Coveteur, and Glitz Africa.


Gilbert's talent has earned him numerous accolades, including the Glitz Style Awards Photographer of the Year in 2016 and 2018. In 2017, Culture Trip listed him among the top 10 Ghanaian photographers leading the way in showcasing a modern and multifaceted African nation. He was also nominated in the Creative and Support Arts category at the EMY Awards in 2021. His image "Black Girl Magic" was selected for the Editor's Choice by the photo-sharing website 500px and presented at the Eranda Studio by the Photographer's Gallery in the UK.


Despite his success, Gilbert remains committed to his core mission: telling stories that move hearts, provoke thought, and ignite change. His humanitarian endeavors are deeply intertwined with his creative pursuits, using art to spark meaningful conversations and drive positive change. Gilbert’s work serves as a reminder that beauty emerges when we come together in solidarity and embrace our shared humanity.
