World Oral Health Day Global Ambassador
Dr. Louisa Ansong Satekla’s story is an inspiring tapestry of academic brilliance, professional achievements, and an unwavering commitment to community and oral health advocacy. Born into a family of doctors, she has always been destined for greatness. A proud graduate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), Dr. Louisa was recognized as the overall best student in 2016. Her educational journey also includes a BSc in Human Biology from KNUST. Her expertise in dental health soon saw her taking the reins at Charisma Dental Clinic in Accra, where she’s been a full-time dental surgeon since 2019. Her passion for oral health goes beyond her practice, however. In 2020, she launched the “Toothy Tuesdays” initiative, a virtual education platform that spreads knowledge about oral hygiene to dental enthusiasts across the globe. With a desire to elevate oral health awareness further, Dr. Louisa’s role as the World Oral Health Day (WOHD) Global Ambassador for 2023 was a natural extension of her commitment to improving health literacy worldwide. In this capacity, she’s partnered with the FDI World Dental Federation to reduce the burden of oral diseases through education and awareness campaigns.
But Dr. Louisa is not only known for her clinical excellence; she is also a trailblazer in philanthropy. Her charity work focuses on empowering young girls in rural Ghana, particularly in science and academic excellence. By encouraging education in underserved communities, Dr. Louisa is helping to create more opportunities for women in the sciences, giving them the tools they need to succeed.
Her work earned her the prestigious Most Outstanding Woman in Health Award at the 2021 GOWA Awards, and she was also honored as Health Influencer of the Year at the 2021 Ghana Pulse Awards.
Her relentless drive to make a difference is also reflected in her continued involvement with international health initiatives. Dr. Louisa’s contributions to the field have earned her the admiration of her peers, culminating in her selection as the WOHD Global Ambassador for the second consecutive year in 2023. This appointment allows her to inspire others to be “mouth proud” and promote lifelong smiles while advocating for better oral healthcare policies worldwide.
Dr. Louisa’s journey from a standout student at KNUST to becoming a dental expert, educator, and advocate for oral health is nothing short of extraordinary. Her story is one of resilience, passion, and the belief that one person can indeed make a global impact. As she continues to break barriers in healthcare, Dr. Louisa’s legacy as a philanthropist and a health professional will undoubtedly inspire future generations to follow in her footsteps.
