My name is Cole May and I'm a Singer - Songwriter/ Loop Artist from a small village close to Frankfurt, Germany. I developed my own music style on my many journeys around the world. I have performed on stages in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Scotland. In February 2019 I released my debut single 'San Francisco' followed by my 'Neverland' album. 'San Francisco' was critically acclaimed and even got in the semi-final of the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) 2019. Inspired by the likes of Milky Chance, Vance Joy and Alt-J, I do combine my profound lyrics with catchy melodies to create my own unique alternative sound.
What were the biggest initial hurdles to developing your career and how did you overcome them?
The biggest initial hurdles for me were to overcome my self-doubt and my stage-fright I've always criticized my own work in a bad way and I've lost myself in perfectionism. I overcame my hurdles with not overthinking every aspect of my career. I did't want to be the person who always just talked about his dreams I wanted to be the person who is living them. Nowadays I'm not afraid anymore to make a move and I accept myself as the artist I am.
Did you ever deal with contention from your family and friends concerning your pursuits?
How did you handle it? What would you do differently in hindsight?
I am glad that, most of my friends and family always gave me all the support I needed. I have no regrets.
What would you say was the single most influential factor in your success?
The most influential factor in my success was that I stopped caring about what other people might think about me and started to chase my dreams.
What do you know today that you wish you would have known when you first got started?
Friends and family might build you up and support you, but it's all up to you
What advice would you give to an upcoming artist or talent locally and internationally?
Follow your dreams! Don't care about what anyone thinks about your visions, idea and never give up until you succeed.
