In the realm of African entrepreneurship, Charles Kojo Bucknor stands out as a visionary leader and a catalyst for change. Graduating from Ashesi University College in 2012, Charles embarked on a journey that would redefine his trajectory within the energy and infrastructure sectors. Charles began his career at General Electric (GE), where he swiftly climbed the ranks and became involved in pivotal projects, extending his influence beyond West Africa. His role as Project Finance Director for Power Distribution Services in Ghana showcased his prowess in reshaping critical aspects of the electricity landscape. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, Charles sought new avenues. In 2017, he co-founded a set of thriving hospitality businesses in Osu's Nyaniba area, including the Alley Bar, TreeHouse Restaurant, and the Nyaniba Neighbourhood Market. This marked the beginning of his foray into entrepreneurship, creating spaces that became local favorites.


Charles is not confined to hospitality; he's the Co-Owner of Le petit Oiseau Restaurant, Treehouse Restaurant, and The Alley Bar. Simultaneously, as the Co-Founder and CEO of Aphro Beverages, he leads a company offering a portfolio of African beverages, from Organic Palm Spirits to Ready-to-Drink alcopops.


Charles envisions Aphro as a global brand, and he sees the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) as a pivotal enabler. He anticipates that AfCFTA will propel Aphro to gain presence, scale, and market share across the continent. Charles' endeavors haven't gone unnoticed. Aphro Spirit, a made-in-Ghana product, received the Spirit of the Year award at the Ghana Beverage Awards. The premium palm spirit, with its refined quality and unique branding, has become a fast-growing high-end beverage in Ghana and is making waves in Nigeria.


Charles is an alumnus of Ashesi University College, where he pursued a BSc. in Management, Information Systems. His career spans roles at GE, including Project Development Associate and Analyst in various capacities.


As an entrepreneur, Charles continues to explore new opportunities. His ventures not only contribute to the local economy but also showcase the potential of African businesses on a global stage.
