Actress | Best-Selling Author | Podcast Host | Mother
My journey has been quite colorful and beautiful—full of super high highs and very trying lows—25 years in the business hasn’t been easy. But then nothing worth it is, right? I was born into a family of hustlers, hard workers, dreamers, and optimists. And I’ll say—it’s all of those things that keep me going in the dark times, and keep me grateful and humble in my wins and successes. I began my acting career on the Kids Show Power Rangers Lost Galaxy. I've been in big studio films like NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE, CABIN FEVER—I have a fan base all over the globe of incredible horror and comic fans— I've done comedies and dramas and indies and all of it— and most recently starred as the Mom on Disney Channel’s Stuck in the Middle. I co-wrote a book series with Harper Collins and now I have my first children's book out! It’s called EVERYBODY HAS A BELLY BUTTON and I’m really proud of it. It’s really sweet.
What were the biggest initial hurdles and how did you overcome them?
Honestly, looking back, the biggest hurdle was being confident in my own body, my own skin, and trusting my gut. This business is full of rejection— it will always be that way. You have to let that stuff roll off of you. You have to stand tall and proud of who you are—not comparing yourself to anyone. No one has the same career path— our uniqueness is what makes us special and is what books the jobs. When you lean into just being authentically yourself—that’s where the magic is. Another hurdle was leaving an unhealthy marriage. I couldn’t get over any of those things without my amazing support system of women. I have amazing girlfriends. We lift each other up— we talk to each other through things. Through my friendships with other authentic women— so many amazing things have been born. Including new perspectives on all those life hurdles. :)
What books are you currently reading?
Right, this minute— I'm reading a few books that my friends have written! That's what’s on my nightstand! Myung Sung, the Korean Art of Living Meditation by my dear friend Jenelle Kim, I read UNTAMED twice!! :) The Myth of The Nice Girl that the co-author of my hot chick book series Jodi Lipper worked on. :)
What advice would you give to upcoming youth or talents locally and internationally?
DO IT! Go for it! Do what’s in your heart. The thing that your soul whispers to you— That's what you're supposed to do. Listen to that voice and take action to make it happen. Even if you don’t know what the end is— just take the first step. One step at a time and you will walk yourself into a life and career you love.
