Catherine Kuupol Kuutor's journey is a groundbreaking narrative of resilience, expertise, and pioneering spirit. Appointed as the General Manager of GOLD FIELDS Tarkwa Mine on May 1, 2024, she became the first female to hold such a prestigious position in a Ghanaian mining company. Catherine's story is a testament to her dedication and influence in the mining sector. With over 20 years of experience as a metallurgist, Catherine's expertise has been honed through various significant roles. Before her current appointment, she was the first female Metallurgical Manager for both the Tarkwa and Damang mines. Her responsibilities included overseeing effective mineral extraction and tailings storage, ensuring adherence to stringent industry standards.


Catherine's educational journey laid a strong foundation for her career. She earned a Masters in Mineral Engineering from the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa, and a Higher National Diploma in Mining and Mineral Engineering from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD at the University of Mines and Technology, further solidifying her commitment to advancing in her field. In her role as General Manager, Catherine oversees the day-to-day management and operations of the Tarkwa Mine. She ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, focusing on health, safety, and environmental management. Her leadership is marked by a commitment to responsible mining practices and creating a safe work environment for all employees.


Catherine's impact extends beyond her professional achievements. As an advocate for women in STEM, she inspires and mentors young women to pursue careers in traditionally male-dominated fields. Her pioneering role has opened doors for many and set a precedent for future generations.
