Andy Tetteh | Ghana | Never Stop Learning

Address problems early, accept criticism graciously, set boundaries clearly, and always be polite. No matter how skilled you are, nobody will work with you if you're difficult to work with - just my opinion!!

My name is Andy Tetteh, I am an actor, model, chartered marketer and a host. I was born and raised in Accra Ghana. After my tertiary education, I went ahead to pursue a marketing diploma program but along the way I developed an affection for acting. As a result, I started watching films and acting techniques on YouTube. After gaining a little knowledge, I started attending auditions and that jump started my career. I have featured in a number of highly rated box office films such Tillsunset, Catch Them Young, A New Sun - to name a few. I have also been blessed to have won awards some of which include Best photogenic actor {IPA}, Discovery Actor of the year{GSA}, Best Actor{OSFA}.

What were the biggest initial hurdles and how did you overcome them? Some of the hurdles I faced during the start of my career were opportunity and finance. Being an actor in this part of my world is quite difficult, because some producers will prefer to use popular actors instead of up and coming actors. However, with consistency, doing monologue and working on my craft I started getting major roles in films. From my perspective, the creative arts industry is handicapped due to funding. This makes it really difficult for independent filmmakers to generate amazing content.

What do you know today that you wish you would have known when you first got started? When I started, it was all about me being on television and chasing fame. However, after some time I realized it’s not just about fame and money. I want to be the voice of the voiceless and also be a trailblazer for my town. Most of all, using my platform to educate and impact lives positively.

What advice would you give to an upcoming youth or talents locally and internationally? My advice to up and coming talents or creative people is - stay relevant and never undermine your abilities. Connect with like - minded people who can mentor you and motivate you. Lastly, never stop learning.
