Meet Abiola Bawuah, a trailblazer and a driving force in the banking industry, currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of UBA Africa. Breaking barriers, she is the first female CEO of UBA Africa, a testament to her exceptional leadership and dedication. Abiola's journey with UBA began in 2013 when she joined as Deputy Managing Director of UBA Ghana. In less than a year, she achieved a historic milestone by becoming the Managing Director/CEO, marking the first time a woman and an indigenous leader helmed the position in a Pan African Bank. Her journey continued to ascend, and she currently holds the prestigious role of Regional Chief Executive Officer, West Africa, overseeing operations in nine West African countries.

Abiola has left an indelible mark on the banking landscape. Under her visionary leadership, the branch network at UBA Ghana expanded from 25 to 28 fully networked branches. The introduction of over 60 Visa, Verve, and Mastercard-enabled ATMs across various cities further attests to her commitment to enhancing banking accessibility.

Her excellence extends beyond Ghana; as Regional CEO, West Africa, she played a pivotal role in overseeing UBA's subsidiaries in nine countries, driving strategic business growth and operational efficiency. Her impact earned her recognition as the overall Banking and Finance Female Personality of the Year in 2014.

Abiola's impressive academic background includes a BSc in Actuarial Science from the University of Lagos, an LLB with honors from the University of London, and an Executive MBA in Finance from the University of Ghana. She has also garnered leadership qualifications from prestigious institutions such as Harvard Business School, Columbia, University of New York, INSEAD, and Institut Villa Pierrefeu in Switzerland.

Abiola's influence extends globally, as she is now the CEO of UBA Africa, overseeing operations across the continent, outside Nigeria. Her appointment to the UBA Group Board as an Executive Director further solidifies her position as a key player in shaping the future of UBA.

Beyond her professional achievements, Abiola's appointment underscores UBA's commitment to diversity. As the first female CEO of UBA Africa, she joins a Board with a majority of female Directors, emphasizing UBA's dedication to gender equality.
