Ruth Kudzi | UK | Build Up Your Network!!

I had been coaching for over a decade in my job and on a pro-bono basis and it was clear it was my passion. When I had my first child it was difficult to balance a full time career with spending time with her so I decided to take the leap and set up on my own. In September 2015 I made the commitment to myself to start my own coaching business, first forward a year and I had my first clients, a social media profile and I was earning close to my corporate salary (with a baby in between). It took me nearly a year to find my feet properly a year with highs (clients every month, growth, speaking gigs, collaborations, blogs, travel) and lows (lack of confidence, tech, bad decisions, projects not working out, clients saying “no”). It seemed like a no-brainer, I was able to combine a successful career in recruitment and sales where I was often the top biller and regularly bought in over 6 figures in sales every month which over a decade of experience in education mainly in leadership positions where I developed coaching and mentoring programs internally and externally. I had over 1000 hours of coaching when I started and business experience but the learning curve was still very real! I now have a successful business that gives me the flexibility to work when I want, freedom to earn good money, freedom to travel and freedom to do things on my terms. Plus more financial rewards than I could ever have hoped for (My business turned over more than £300K in 2018)

What were the biggest initial hurdles to building your business and how did you overcome them?

Knowledge of the online world was a big gap so I invested in mentors and coaches who had experience in this area to build my knowledge and confidence. I also got my husband, who is a digital marketing director to help me with all things Digital.

Did you ever deal with contention from your family and friends concerning your entrepreneurial pursuits? How did you handle it? What would you do differently in hindsight?

At the beginning there was a bit of concern about how I would replace my income from some family members but they saw that I was doing what I loved and I was successful and they now support me 100%.

What would you say was the single most influential factor in your business success?

Consistency, I take action every day and I am focused on giving my clients the best value.

What do you know today that you wish you would have known when you first got started as an entrepreneur?

Get specific support for the parts of the business that I am not an expert in.

What advice would you give to an upcoming young and old entrepreneur locally and internationally?

Build up your network and get support - it is okay to ask for help!.
