Hannah Fastov | New York City | Research Your Idea!

I was living and working in New York City balancing a healthy lifestyle, social life, and career. As crazy as it sounds, I could not find the perfect bag to hold everything I needed just to get through my hectic days. I started thinking about what I would want in my every day bag and continued my research with a survey of over 100 active women, which confirmed my notion that the perfect lifestyle bag did not exist, and helped me identify the key issues with the current carry all totes and gym bags offered on the market. From there I started designing and came up with our signature style, the Infinity bag. The bag has a separate compartment for your shoes or yoga mat, a snap in snap out pouch that doubles as a cross body bag with the additional adjustable strap included with every bag, machine washable laundry pouch, padded laptop section, water bottle holder, one interior zip pocket, and three exterior zip pockets. Plus, if you don't have shoes or a yoga mat, there is an interior zipper, which releases the shoe compartment creating a deeper tote. Knowing I found a hole in the market and a solution to fix it ignited my spark to start Go Dash Dot and keeps me motivated every day.

What three pieces of advice would you give to college students (young and old) locally or internationally who want to become entrepreneurs?

Thoroughly research your idea before you jump in

Talk to as many people as you can in all different fields. Starting a company means you need to be a jack of all trades, so learning from other leaders is the best way to get key information and reliable advice. Plus, you never know who can help you.

Know your strengths and be willing to ask for help when you need it.

If you had the chance to start your career over again, what would you do differently?

I am still early enough in my career that I wouldn’t do anything too differently, at least not yet. But if I could do college again, I would have definitely studied business and/or marketing

What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

The ability to sell yourself and your product

Great problem-solving skills

Adaptability
