Saxony Kearney | Atlanta | Redefine TIME & TREND!

Saxy’s is an international sleepwear brand that effortlessly combines the best of both worlds: Sexy & Comfort. Dedicated to providing superior quality, feminine designs, comfortability, and versatility—Saxy’s is more than PJ’s, it’s a brand designed for women who want to look beautiful and feel comfortable in the bedroom, but also can easily transition from sleepwear to chic streetwear.

What ignited the spark in you to start a new business venture or to make significant changes in an existing business?

How did the idea for your business come about? The conception of Saxy’s was birthed through a personal battle within my household. My husband hated the pajamas I chose to go to sleep in because they weren’t alluring or attractive—but I loved them because they were comfy. In my search to compromise and satisfy us both I discovered there wasn’t much out there that appealed to both, sexy and comfy—so that’s when I decided to take matters into my own hands and create a sleepwear line that focused on giving women the best of both worlds and the opportunity to truly define their own sexy.

What were the biggest initial hurdles to building your business and how did you overcome them?

Initially, my biggest hurdle was finding a trustworthy manufacturer with excellent craftsmanship within the USA. But through a lot of diligent research, I mean A LOT of research, I had to make that tough decision to pick a highly recommended overseas manufacturer to keep my price points reasonable for my customers.

Did you ever deal with contention from your family and friends concerning your entrepreneurial pursuits? How did you handle it? What would you do differently in hindsight?

Luckily, my family and friends have been extremely supportive and helpful. Both my husband and mother have been a constant motivator for me to relentlessly pursue my sleepwear line. I truly couldn’t ask for a better support team.

What would you say was the single most influential factor in your business success?

Having a business mentor who was in the Apparel industry herself. Having someone in your corner that can prepare you for all the hurdles and challenges is invaluable. They can provide you with industry connects and experience/hacks to help that you be successful—whereas typical business coach can’t offer you the same knowledge because they’re truly living and breathing it.

What do you know today that you wish you would have known when you first got started as an entrepreneur?

The true length of time it takes to design, source, and manufacture product overseas. I initially thought that manufacturing would take about 3-4 months and then I’d be ready to launch, but it took more like 7 months and I wasn’t prepared mentally for it take that long. It really put my planning skills to the test and showed me how important it is to be able to pivot and adapt to all and any new circumstances.

What advice would you give to an upcoming young and old entrepreneur locally and internationally?

Find a mentor! Find someone in the industry of your choice that’s willing to take you under their wing. It might not be free, but if they’re as BOSS as you think, then it’ll be well worth it. Plus it’ll save you money down the road for all the mistakes you might have made along the way.
